A Brief History of Svedka Vodka
When & Where was Svedka Vodka Created?
We can certainly see where Svedka was created, simply by looking at its name. Born in Sweden, its name is actually a portmanteau, which is a word made of two words combined (think smog = smoke and fog). Svedka is the combination of Svenska (meaning Sweden and of course, vodka. Svedka is made in the town of Lidköping and is owned by Constellation brands, based in New York.
Svedka was created in 1998 and has seen very rapid growth to one of the more popular vodka brands in the United States and across the world. Svedka, like other well-known vodka brands, has done a superb job keeping a fresh face in the market by introducing new, flashy packaging. With the introduction of a new flavor line in 2013, Svedka is keeping pace with other major brands. The new flavors and continuous innovation allow Svedka to remain relevant in the marketplace and amongst bartenders who like to create new concoctions.
How Much Does Svedka Vodka Cost?
The Cost of Svedka Versus Other Brands
Svedka vodka has made a name for itself and, in fact, prides itself on its lower than competitors price points. If we use the same comparisons as the level of a Skyy vodka, with brands like Tito’s and Stolichnaya, the Svedka comes in well below the $20 per liter comparison. Taking a step down in price point from Svedka, will dramatically decrease the quality of vodka – think plastic bottles.
Does Lower Cost Equal Lower Quality?
The question remains: is it good enough to drink at such a low price? Svedka vodka does very well amongst reviewers on almost all spirits review sites. Svedka reviewers state that it has a drinkable taste that is strong enough to not taste “watered down” but is smooth enough to drink on its own.
Svedka has done a remarkable job marketing itself to bartenders across the country and globe. By continuously innovating with emboldening flavors and branding, Svedka has created a space for itself amongst pioneering, craft cocktail creators. This has allowed Svedka, a relatively “cheap” vodka to stay in line with other competitors in the same quality profile.
As seen below, Svedka finds itself in the bottom of the typical cost bracket for the moderately priced vodkas. Svedka is truly making a name for itself by being cost efficient and tasty enough for any cocktail.
