Boozy Cocktails to try for Father's Day

Godfather

A perfect combination of Scotch and amaretto, this classic became widely popular in the 70's and is still a hit today. The two spirits compliment each other exquisitely and the drink is as easy to make as it is satisfying! We like using Johnnie Walker Black and Disaronno for this, but any Scotch will do. Try it with your favorite!

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 oz Scotch whiskey
  • .5 oz amaretto

Method:

In a mixing glass, combine Scotch and amaretto. Add ice and stir. Strain into rocks glass over large cube.

Manhattan

Manhattan

This strong martini style cocktail is one of the oldest in the books. Combining rye, sweet vermouth and bitters, there are endless variations on this classic. If you don't have a favorite rye whiskey, try Knob Creek Rye!

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz rye whiskey
  • 1 oz sweet vermouth
  • 1 dashes angostura bitters

Method:

In a mixing glass, combine all ingredients and add ice. Stir and strain into martini glass. Garnish with a cherry.

Tipperary

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 oz Irish whiskey
  • 1 oz sweet vermouth
  • .5 oz green Chartreuse
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters

Method:

Combine all ingredients into mixing glass. Add ice and stir. Strain into cocktail glass.

Old Fashioned

This is a cocktail that we believe everyone should try! It's simple, straight forward, classic and it can be modified to fit just about any flavor profile! So grab a bottle of your favorite bourbon and get mixing!!

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz bourbon
  • .5 oz simple syrup
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  •  2 dashes orange bitters

Method:

Combine all ingredients into mixing glass. Add ice and stir. Strain into rocks glass over large cube. Garnish with brandied cherry and expressed orange peel.

Last Word

Since Father's Day is in the summer time, you may be looking for a refreshing cocktail but one that still packs a punch. The Last Word is the perfect balance of gin, herbal Chartreuse, sweet Maraschino cherry and zippy lime. We like using Hendrick's as it adds a fun crisp cucumber note. Grab your bottles and start making some drinks for dad!

Ingredients:

  • .75 oz gin
  • .75 oz green Chartreuse
  • .75 oz Maraschino cherry liqueur
  •  .75 oz fresh lime juice

Method:

Combine all ingredients into cocktail shaker with ice. Shake and double strain into coupe. Garnish with brandied cherry.

Cool Cocktails for Dad

Since Father's Day falls in the summer we will include some super refreshing options too!

Shandy

Grapefruit Shandy

Nothing screams summer drinks for dad like a beer shandy he can sip on all day! Cocktails made with beer, or beertails, do not get nearly enough credit in our opinion! They are however becoming increasingly more trendy because of their low abv. They are also referred to as "session" cocktails because they don't pack the same punch as their boozy friends listed above.

Ingredients:

Method:

Mix simple syrup and grapefruit juice in a glass. Slowly fill with Stella. Garnish with grapefruit wedge.

Lynchburg Lemonade

Another manly yet refreshing cocktail dad might enjoy is the Lynchburg Lemonade. Created in 1980 in Huntsville, Alabama, the lemonade is named after the city Jack Daniel's was founded. Of course if you don't have a bunch of lemons and time on your hands, you can always just mix the whiskey with your favorite store bought lemonade!

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Jack Daniels
  • 2 oz oz simple syrup
  • 4 oz fresh squeezed lemon juice

Method:

Combine all ingredients into cocktail shaker with ice. Shake and pour into Collins glass. Garnish with fresh lemon wedge.

Daiquiri

Daiquiri

So light, so refreshing, just boozy enough! There are many twists you can do on a Daiquiri so we'll give you the guide and you can tailor it to your specific taste. Idea: sub ginger syrup instead of regular simple or try using .5 oz Maraschino liqueur and grapefruit juice for a Hemingway Daiquiri.

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz white rum
  •  .75 oz simple syrup
  • .75 oz fresh squeezed lime juice

Method:

Combine all ingredients into cocktail shaker with ice. Shake and double strain into coupe. Garnish with lime wheel.

Ginger Whiskey Collins

Ginger, whiskey, collins

This dad drink could not be easier or more satisfying!

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz whiskey
  •  .75 oz lime juice

Get breakfast and booze at the same time! This delicious twist on a Bloody Mary uses bourbon and bacon to spice up this classic! Feel free to go crazy with garnishes like olives, celery, shrimp, charcuterie...the options are endless! We also like to add a smoked black pepper and salty paprika rim! Add a splash of your favorite hot sauce for an extra kick too!

  •  .5 oz lime juice
  • Bloody Mary Mix

Method:

Combine all ingredients in shaker with ice. Shake and pour into pint glass. Garnish with a slice of crispy bacon.

Michelada

Michelada

Another great cocktail to make dad for brunch this Father's Day is a Michelada. It's salty, savory, spicy and refreshing! Feel free to adjust the recipe for more or less spice. You can also use tomato juice or Bloody Mary mix, but we like the flavor of Clamato juice. Any light beer will do, we're serving ours with Corona.

  • 2 dashes Tobasco
  •  2 dashes Worcestershire sauce
  •  2 dashes soy sauce
  • 3 oz Clamato Juice
  • light beer

Method:

Combine all ingredients in pint glass and top with beer. Garnish with spiced rim and lime wedge.
