If you find Voss Water refreshing or enjoy the glass bottle, you can thank the Norwegian friend duo of Christopher Harlem and Ole Christian Sandberg. Norway is widely known and respected for its clean, nearly pristine environment. The friends decided the wanted to share this purity with the world.
Voss joins Fiji as a brand that features a distinct bottle. Neil Kraft is credited with the creation of the bottle and it is said to represent the clear purity of Voss Water itself. The cylindrical shape stands out to everyone browsing a shelf full of bottled waters.
Also like Fiji Water, Voss claims to source its water from an artesian aquifer in the southern part of Norway. This claim is not without controversy, as a Norwegian news channel reported that Voss was simply bottling the local tap water. Voss vehemently denies this assertion to this day.
Voss Water has endured an acquisition that occurred in 2016. It is now available in over 50 countries and the line has expanded to sparkling and flavored sparkling waters.

We have seen a couple of similarities between Voss and Fiji water thus far. As you can see in our price list, Voss Water certainly falls into the premium bottled water category. There are some notable impacts on the pricing that originate from Voss’ processes.
Justifying the Price Point
The bottle is certainly unique. Of note, an 850ml plastic bottle is only slightly more expensive than the 375ml glass bottle. Glass is more expensive to make and that cost clearly translates to the price you pay as a customer.
Plastic bottles have become the poster child for ocean pollution and many consumers prefer to use glass and reusable products. The extra cost up front is often more palatable for those who have environmental concerns about plastic and its disposal.
Both the plastic and glass bottles feature the iconic cylindrical shape. Plastic and glass are both highly recyclable and Voss claims the plastic is the highest quality possible. Additionally, Voss maintains that its bottle making process is carbon neutral with a final sum of zero carbon emissions throughout the manufacturing.
The natural filtration process and protection from contaminants allows Voss to avoid the use of chemicals and other additives to purify the water. The water is also tested to ensure it is free of anything that could be harmful to consume. This makes artesian water inherently more valuable than water from other sources.
Voss vs Other Bottles
Voss comes in as more expensive than other water brands aside from premium offerings like Fiji or Evian. This seems to be justified as popular less expensive brands like Dasani or Aquafina come from basic local tap water supplies.
The high-grade plastic bottle presents a more affordable option for those without strict personal beliefs against using plastic. Of note, the plastic used is BPA free and can be recycled at most recycling centers.

pH of Voss Water
All of the options offered by Voss Water come in as slightly more acidic than purified water that has no mineral content.
The absorption of sodium, magnesium, and calcium while the water sits in the below-ground aquifer creates the acidic pH. However, while considered acidic on the pH scale, no noticeable taste of acidity is present.

Where Does Voss Water Come From?
Premium water brands like Voss make a big deal about where they source their water. This is fair enough as tap water receives a bit of a stigma and many would certainly be dismayed to learn the water in their bottle (even the least expensive bottles are ten times more expensive than tap water) is from a local public water source.
The water is sourced from an artesian aquifer that sits below a village called Vatnestrøm. This village is actually located hundreds of miles away from the village known as Voss. Bottling takes place outside of Voss, as well.
Obviously, the water emanating from the aquifer does not come in flavors. However, Voss uses all natural ingredients with no added sugars to create the flavors for its sparkling offerings.
